Wike’s Aide Assures On Victory
The April 17, local government elections orgarnised by the Rivers State Independent Electorate Commission (RSIEC) took place in Etche Local Government Area and Omuma Local Government Areas as scheduled
In Etche LGA,the election started two hours behind the scheduled time due to late arrival of election materials to the 19 wards and units in area.
At Okehi Divisional Police headquarters, where the election materials were kept and distributed ,our correspondent who mornitored the election reports that distribution of materials to various wards commenced between the hours of 10am and 12 noon
Speaking to newsmen, the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Rural Development, Hon. Andy Nwanjoku expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would emerge victorious despite the early hicups noticed in the distribution of election materials to the various wards and units.
In Omuma Local Government Area of the state, the election commenced as at 9am in some units across 10 wards in the area.
At Ward 1, Unit 4 voters were seen casting their votes for candidates of their choice deviod of any wrangglings or snatching of election materials .
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Umuechere Ward 6, Unit 8, the Chairman of Omuma, Local Government Counil, Hon Chisom Nwaiwu ,who is also the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election commended the state Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, for organising credible, free and fair elections in the area.
He promised the people of the area that his administration would continue with his developmental programmes and also improve on areas of needs.
Also speaking ,a former Chairman of Omuma Local Government Council, Hon. Nwuke Anucha, described the local government area as a stronghold of Peoples Democratic Party ,adding tha party has no rival political party in the Local Government Council.
He advised the council chairman to use the opportunity of his second tenure to improve on the areas in need in other to justify the huge confidence given to him by the people of the area.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
