Police Lobby For CCTV In Stations
As the Information and Communication Technology (ICT), continues to penetrate all sectors of the economy, the Nigerian Police say the use of Circuit Cable Television (CCTV) at all police stations in the country would enhance better policing.
Some Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), in Rivers State who spoke under cover made this known in an exclusive chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt, recently.
They said, the use of CCTVwould be of immense help to the force in tracking crimes and criminals
One of the DPOs explained that some criminals get away with their act due to the absence of recording devices.
The DPO explained that such tool was needed in order to meet up with the modern challenges in security.
Another DPO, who doubles as a lawyer, appealed to stakeholders to partner the police on the realisation of the project, saying the burden should not be placed on the state government alone.
He pointed out that until private and corporate organisations consider security as top priority, the idea of using modern tools like CCTV in policing may not be achieved due to its high financial involvement.
He recalled how the CCTV at Lekki toll gate aided in tracking some of the suspects of the Leeki shooting during the #EndSARS protest last year.
