Late Chima’s Family Sues Police For N10bn
Family of late auto-mechanic, Chima Ikwunado, allegedly tortured to death by officers of E-Crack Squad in Mile One Police Station, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has sued the police, demanding for N10billion damages over the deceassed torture and death.
The lawyer to the Ikwunado family, Princess Chinyere Lawrence, said the 10billion damages was part of the fundamental human rights suit filed by wife of the late mechanic at the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt.
At the hearing of the matter in court, the Presiding Judge, Justice Kolawole Omotosho, advised the lawyer to the family to amend their applications before the next adjourned date, noting that the suit filed by late Chima’s wife over fundamental human rights abuse was not necessary as there was no evidence that the police tortured her husband to death.
He advised the lawyer to make necessary adjustments to the case at hand.
The matter was adjourned to the March 17 for the continuation of hearing.
Meanwhile, lawyer to the police, Isokari Egop, said the many suits filed by the Ikwunado family might amount to an abuse of court process, and wondered if his learned colleague understood the briefs.
