Police Arrest Officer For Killing Corps Member, Two Others In Bayelsa
The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested one of its officers who killed an NYSC member during the Christmas season.
The said officer, according to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Uche Anozia, is in the custody of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa. The officer in detention also shot dead two other persons during the Yuletide.
The arrest and detention of the police officer, whose name was withheld, was announced last Tuesday.
A statement said: “The authorities of Bayelsa Police Command have arrested and taken into custody one Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel for suspicion of Discreditable Conduct and Unlawful Use of his firearm. “The unruly officer has been arrested and detained. “The suspect, a male NCO, who was arrested on the orders of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Uche Anozia is currently in detention at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Yenagoa.” Riot broke out in the state after the policeman shot dead a commercial driver and two of his passengers. The policeman, who was guarding a new generation bank at the Ekeki area, opened fire on the commercial bus and escaped the scene shortly after quickly boarding a commercial tricycle. It was learnt the bullet, which was shot at close range, pierced through the driver’s head and hit two other passengers, including a member of the NYSC.
