Rivers Community Gets New Ruler
The people of Edeoha Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State last Tuesday unanimously elected Chief Eyii Clifford Jeremiah as the new Paramount Ruler of the community.
It would be recalled that the Edeoha apex chieftaincy stool was declared vacant following the death and subsequent burial of Chief F.S. Ebelogu in 2013.
According to the official result announced by the Chairman of the electoral committee, Rt. Hon. Amezhi Oseja, Chief Jeremiah, who was the only aspirant for the election, polled 46 out of the 46 votes cast in the election.
The delegates for the election were drawn from the three administrative organs of the community, including the Eloha, Umueze and the Council of Chiefs.
In his acceptance speech, the new Paramount Ruler, Chief Eyii Jeremiah dedicated his victory to God, and thanked the people for finding him worthy to occupy the revered stool.
He promised never to let the people down, and appealed to aggrieved parties to bury the hatchet and support him to build a more united community.
Chairman of Upata Council of Chiefs and Traditional Rulers, High Chief Levi Onyiri, while addressing the people after the election, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the people before, during and after the election, and thanked them for abiding by the ruling of the Upata Council of Chiefs which dissolved all factional leadership and directed that a proper process be followed to produce an Eze.
According to him, what he saw was a clear indication that Edeoha is the pride of Upata Kingdom, as it can now be fully represented in the Upata Council of Chiefs.
The high point of the event was the presentation of the new Paramount Ruler to Umu Eyediedhu family, the custodians of the tradition of the land. This is even as Elder Okpara Willie, who accepted him on behalf of the entire family, assured that the family would work with him to move the community forward.
