Prisons Service Trains 36 Welfare Officers In Edo
The Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) Command in Edo says it has trained 36 of its welfare officers to sharpening their professional skills for effective service delivery.
The state Controller of Prisons, Mr Joseph Usendiah disclosed this while declaring open a two-day capacity workshop for welfare officers in the state last Monday in Benin.
He urged the participants to put what they would acquire in the workshop to practice in their duty posts.
Usendiah, who was represented by Assistant Controller of Prison, Mr Austin Izedomwen said the purpose of the workshop is to enhance service delivery of the service in the state.
In her welcome address, the Assistant Controller of Prisons in charge of welfare, Mrs Bridget Iyamu said training and retraining are key to meeting organisational goals.
According to Iyamu, the workshop is at the instance of the command, and it is aimed at complimenting the efforts of NPS Controller General Ja’afaru Ahmed in the drive for excellence.
“The workshop will sharpen awareness of the participants’ skills mostly in dealing with prisons inmates, staff, visitors, chaplains, and the general public,” Iyamu said.
She thanked the state NPS controller for his approval and support towards hosting the event.
The Resource Person, Mr Samuel Dibie, a former NPS controller, said one of the qualities of a social welfare officer is to have a positive attitude and sense of humour.
