Mrs Okowa Hails Passage Of Sickle Cell Centre Bill
The Wife of Delta Governor, Mrs Edith Okowa has commended the State House of Assembly for the passage of the Sickle Cell Centre Bill.
The Governor’s wife gave the commendation in a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Alicia Dominic-Okobi, last Wednesday in Asaba.
She stated that the passage of the Bill would spur “05 initiative’’; her pet project to do more for sickle cell patients in the state.
Okowa said that sickle cell was not a death sentence, and advised patients to remain positive.
She also called on well-meaning individuals, civil society organisations to remain supportive to the parents and caregivers of the SS carriers.
The “05 initiative had, in the last four years established sickle cell centres across the three senatorial districts of the state, with the aim of helping to reduce challenges facing the patients.
The State Assembly last Tuesday passed the Bill to establish sickle cell centres across the state for collection, coordination and distribution of data.
