MOSOP Wants Probe Of Ogoni Community Invasion
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has called for full scale investigation into the alleged invasion of K-Dere community in Gokana Local Government Areà of Rivers State by men allegedly dressed in military uniform.
MOSOP in a statement issued by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Sunny Zurvah and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt said the call became necessary after it received report of a raid in the community last Friday by men im military uniform who accompanying some workers of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
It further said that during the raid the soldiers allegedly started shooting without explanation, leading to the death of a middle aged man, while another was critically injured with gunshot wounds.
The statement reads,” MOSOP on Friday, April 19, 2019 received report of military raid in K. Dere Community about noon, which led to the death of a middle aged man, Nen-elkpege Lezor, and one Lenu Kpegezor, who was shot but still in a hopeless condition.
“The natives stated that men of the Nigerian Army came in company of SPDC pipeline workers and started shooting without any explanation resulting to the sudden death of a young man and other casualties,’ it stated.
While condemning the action of the military, the MOSOP President calls on the security agencies to stop reckless killings in Ogoni communities, saying it would not to let such unprovoked attacks in any part of Ogoni land, let alone killing of its people.
The statement said further, “Even though the Movement is in support of genuine efforts by legitimate authorities and government to fight criminality in Ogoni land and other parts of the state or country, we do not support and will not tolerate unprovoked military onslaught and reckless killings in any Ogoni community or anywhere else.
