Shagari Was A Decent Politician -Dickson, Ortom
Governors Seriake Dickson and Samuel Ortom of Bayelsa and Benue states have expressed shock and sadness over the death of former President Shehu Shagari, describing it as a huge loss to the country.
Dickson said that Shagari, Nigeria’s first elected executive president, was a compassionate leader and a decent politician who appreciated the peculiar challenges of the Niger Delta and the Ijaw nation.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media Relations, Fidelis Soriwei, the governor noted that Shagari passed on at a crucial time his vast experience and wise counsel were needed in the country.
He urged Nigerians to learn from the simple, decent and peaceful lifestyle the former President lived.
Ortom described him as a “true patriot and pillar of democracy” who worked hard for the unity of the country.
In a statement made available to newsmen last Saturday, in Makurdi. Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Ortom, Terver Akase, stated that “Shagari played a key role in the development of the country as its first Executive President and remained a pillar of democracy till his death”.
