Group To Partner RIWAMA On Sanitation In PH
A group, Environmental Protection and Educationist Association has said that it would mobilise its members to assist the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA to step up awareness on keeping Port Harcourt and its environs clean.
The group said it was seeking the partnership of RIWAMA due to the low level of participation by residents of the state on sanitation activities.
Director of the Organisation, Sir Chike Eyindah disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the group cleared drainages and removed dirts on some streets in the Elekahia axis of Port Harcourt.
Eyindah expressed the group’s preparedness to mobilise its members to observe the sanitation at a chosen location every last Saturday of the month slated for the exercise to also create awareness.
Eyindah said: “We want to sustain environmental sanitation practice in Rivers state because we observe that the participation is reducing and we want to reawaken the consciousness for the people to actually take sanitation seriously.
“We intend to collaborate with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FERMA) and other agencies.”
Eyindah further stated that the group’s long term objective is to ensure a drastic reduction of pollution on the environment.
“We want to eradicate air, land and sea pollution to the bearest minimum and to achieve this goal, we will ensure that this programme continues on every monthly sanitation,” the group’s director stated.
Eyindah further said that the association would step up RIWAMA’s campaign for residents of Port Harcourt and its environs to avoid dropping waste along the streets and make available waste bags to encourage proper disposal of refuse.
Some residents of Elekahia, who witnessed the gesture of the association thanked them for their effort and said they were encouraged.
