Umahi Orders Banishment Of Non-Registered Voters
Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has ordered traditional rulers to banish of non-registered voters from various villages and communities in his state.
Governor Umahi gave this order recently at Onuebonyi Primary School in Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State during the official disbursement of scholarship fund to indigent students of Izzi clan by Senator Sam Egwu, representing Ebonyi North Zone in the National Assembly.
The governor, represented by the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assemby, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, charged all the traditional rulers to sway into action against non-registered voters in their various communities.
According to him, any mature person who has no voter card should be chased out from his or her community by the traditional rulers, pointing that such person has no good vision for national growth and development.
He hinted that government would soon look out for non-registered voters in the various markets in the state, insisting that voter card would be then used to guarantee entrance into markets for buying and selling of goods.
He also warned against posting of offensive messages on social media, advising that social media users should learn to upload messages that can enrich people’s life.
Umahi extolled Egwu’s philanthropic gesture saying that he has special passion for promoting education.
Noting that Sen. Egwu emergence as the Senator representing the zone has immensely added value to the lives of his constituents, the speaker pleaded with his constituents to endorse him for re-election in the 2019 general elections.
Egwu had earlier pledged to give full support to ensure the people of Izzi in 2023 produce the next governor after Governor Umahi’s second tenure.
He disclosed that he had made a proposal for a Federal College of Education in the state, promising that it would be located in Izzi land, having appealed to the people to provide a permanent site for the college before he could get back to Abuja.
On his part, the President of Izzi Youth Forum, Ben Aloh Nwovu commended Egwu for the training over 60 youth in Information and communication technology , adding that each of the trainees were given a laptop and cash gifts.
He also thanked the Senator for granting scholarship to over 75 students from his clan including other empowerment programmes.
However, Nwovu reminded that the Izzi displaced people from Ochudo site had been roaming about without a place of settlement and therefore called for government intervention, among other requests.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
