GM Tasks Social Media Practitioners On Investigative Journalism
The General Manager of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr. Vincent Ake, has called on managers of social media platforms to apply professional standards in information dissemination.
The general manager gave the charge while addressing members of D-Source Connect Group, a social media platform, which paid him a courtesy call in his office, yesterday.
Ake, who described the social media as a potent information dissemination platform, cautioned against the offloading of rumours and falsehood on the social media, and called for proper investigation on issues.
He commended the group for the visit and their support for the Rivers State Government.
The general manager pointed out that The Tide was committed to promoting professionalism, and assured the commitment of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation to partner with the body in the promotion of the ideals of good governance.
Describing Rivers State as the “rallying point in the South-South region”, Ake said Rivers State occupies prime position in national discourse, and cautioned against misrepresentation of the state in the social media.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Barrister Amadi Dike, had said that they were on the visit to identify with excellence in print journalism, and to seek a measure of partnership.
Dike thanked the management of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation for the audience, and assured the commitment of the body towards upgrading standards in social media revolution.
He called for sanctions on those who violate professional standards in information dissemination on the social media through the spreading of rumours and falsehood.
Dike said the body was excited by the development strides of the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and pledged the support of the body towards promoting the development initiatives of the state government on the social media.
