PH Poly, Institute To Partner On Curriculum Dev
The Rector of the Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Rumuola, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Dr Sam Kalagbor, has said that the school will partner with the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (NIS) in curriculum development.
The rector stated this while receiving a delegation of the state chapter of the institute during an official visit to the Port Harcourt Polytechnic last Thursday.
He thanked the chairman and members of the state chapter of the institute for the donation of digital training, teaching aids and academic literature to the school, and assured that the polytechnic will make judicious use of the donated materials.
He further urged for stronger collaboration between the institute and the polytechnic especially in areas of students’ practical and continuous training in line with the requirements of the National Board for Technical Education, (NBTE).
He assured the commitment of the polytechnic towards achieving its statutory mandate of developing middle skill manpower and functional training for the Nigeria’s industrial sector,
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, state chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Surveyors, Surveyor Joseph Amadi said that the visit was to identify with the school and lend professional support to academic development.
He commended the polytechnic for making Surveying a full fledged department in the school, noting that the initiative would help in training more surveyors in the society.
The chairman emphasised the importance of surveyors in the society, describing the discipline as critical to the development of every sector of the Nigerian economy.
He pointed out that the neglect of surveying in constructions and design plans, was responsible for major challenges faced in the society, such as flooding, building collapse, defective designs, among others. The chairman also called on professional bodies to partner with the polytechnic to enhance quality delivery in academic objectives.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector.
