FG Flags Off Graduate Farmers Scheme In Rivers
The Federal Government has restated its commitment towards ensuring food security in the country.
The Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Suleiman H. Adamu , disclosed this at Egberu Ndoki, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State during the flag-off of the unemployed graduate Youths Farmers scheme.
Engr. Adamu who said that the scheme which had been launched in nine out of the 109 senatorial districts in the country was meant to ensure suffiency in food production in the country.
The minister who was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Dr Musa Ibrahim said that enough provisions had been made in this year’s budget to take care of the trainees.
He also said that the scheme would be launched in every part of the country and charged the fifty trainees made up of both men and women to use the opportunity to improve their skills.
The Minister commended the management of Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) for blazing the trail in the provision of basic services within its catchment areas and urged other Basin Authorities in the country to emulate the NDBDA.
Also speaking, Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Engr. Tonye David West said that the programme was part of the activities of the authority to check youth restiveness as well as boost food production within its catchment area.
According to him, the scheme would boost the income of farmers and support president Muhammadu Buhari’s food security programme.
Engr. West also said that the programme would continue as long as there are men and women willing to be engaged.
