…As Rivers NUJ Mourns Former Chairman
With a deep sense of loss, the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) announces the death of her former Chairman, Mr. Paul Alozie, who died after a brief illness on the 23rd of March, 2017.
In a statement signed by Secretary of the union, Mr. Soibi Max-Alalibo, Chairman, Omoni Ayo-Tamuno, said “Paul’s death at this time is indeed a huge blow to journalism in Rivers State.
“When you see Paul, you see dedication to journalism practice, zeal, finesse and commitment to duty. As a unionist, Paul was a worthy comrade in all spheres, and one from whose experience up-coming journalists could have said, gained a lot”, the statement.
It added that “as the union mourns his death, I call on journalists in the State and friends of the union to endeavour to give the departed soul a befitting last respect by participating in all the programmes scheduled to honour him”.
As a mark of respect, the union will hold a Night of Tributes at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center, Moscow Road today, April 21, 2017, by 4pm, while the burial will take place tomorrow, April 22, 2107, in his home town, Umuebie, Eberi in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.
A service of songs was held last Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at his home in Agip Estate, Port Harcourt.
