Okowa Tasks Civil Servants On Probity
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
of Delta State has charged workers in the state to ensure probity, integrity, commitment and discipline while performing their duties.
The governor gave the charge while swearing in seven members of the state’s House of Assembly Service Commission in Asaba.
Okowa noted that one of the greatest challenges in the country’s public service was indiscipline, charging the commission to ensure discipline among workers.
He, however, told the commission to be fair to all workers by ensuring that its responsibilities of promoting, training and disciplines were appropriately applied to ensure workers’ commitment to work.
The governor also charged workers to always follow due process in channeling their grievances rather than resorting to violence.
He commended the state’s chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their support and advice that had ensured industrial harmony in the state.
He was confident that the commission’s Chair, Mrs Josephine Kachikwu, and members of the commission would deliver on their mandate.
“The swearing in of the chairman and members of the state House of Assembly Service Commission is critical to the development of the state’s civil service.
“Permit me to use this opportunity to appeal to all workers in the state to always follow due process in expressing their grievances,’’ Okowa said.
He reassured his administration’s commitment to delivering developmental projects for the use of the people, praying that the current recession would end for more progress in 2017.
Kachikwu thanked God and appreciated the governor for finding them worthy to serve in the commission.
She pledged the members’ commitment to delivering on their mandate, soliciting better support from the government and members of the house of assembly.
Another member of the commission, Mr Joseph Oyazimo, told newsmen that being a member of the commission was a call to duty.
“The governor has charged us not to be partial and that we should carry out with all diligence. That is what we must do but all we need is a free hand to perform,’’ he said.
