Church Plans Toilet, Canal Facilities For Ogu Waterfront
The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints has promised to consider the requests by the Abo-Ama community popularly known as Ogu Water front, for a toilet and canal facilities in the area.
Director of Public Affairs at the church, Chief (Dr) Ephraim Etete-Owoh who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen during the enumerations of streets in the community by the church, said that the request will be channeled to the humanitarian department of the church.
Chief (Dr) Etete-Owoh said that, the numeration exercise was being carried out by the church in collaboration with Chicoco mapping, to ensure rosy access to the community as well as curb all incidences of criminality.
According to him, at the end of the enumeration exercise, Chicoco Mapping will be invited to carry out the mapping of the community with a view to gazetting the area into the Port Harcourt City Council.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International, has commended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for embarking on the enumeration of streets at Abo-Ama community popularly known as Ogu Waterside in Port Harcourt.
Representative of the organization and Head, Mapper Chicoco Mapping, Mr Michael Dede said that, the exercise will ensure easy identification of every part of the water front community.
Mr Dede also thanked the church for not only enumerating streets in the community, but cleaning the gutters and canals to ensure easy flow of waters to the rivers.
He urged the community to key into the programme by keeping their surrounding clean and pledged Amnesty International’s readiness to partner with the church to improve the quality of lives of communities in Port Harcourt waterfront.
Also speaking, chairman of Abo-Ama community Mr Iworibo Jonah Oruma, said that the community which is made up of six units is densely populated with over twenty thousand people.
Mr Oruma decried the lack of government amenities in the area and commended the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for its mapping project.
