Customs Cautions Against Killing Of Officers
The Customs Area Con
troller, Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Victor Dimka, has warned that the service will not tolerate killing of his officers in course of duty.
The customs boss in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Taupyen Selchang (SC) and made available to our correspondent in Lagos, noted that a situation where officers performing their legitimate functions were always ambushed and maimed with dangerous weapons cannot be accepted nor tolerated.
“Having taken time in different forum like the Customs Community Consultative Forum (CCCF) and the Joint Border Security Meeting (JBSM) to sensitise the border communities on the danger of smuggling to our health and the Nigeria economy at large.”
“I call on community leaders, opinion leaders and other stakeholders to sensitize those who take pleasure in smuggling at all cost despite government policies banning the importations of such goods. Host communities should be seen as collaborators with the customs and not saboteurs who circumvent the peaceful implementation process of federal government policies.”
In another development, the command said it recorded an upsurge in its revenue drive as it earns over N695 million for the month of June.
“The N695 million generated for the month represents about 69% monthly target for the command, he said.
The customs boss also disclosed that the command made a total number of 64 seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N37million in the period under review.
Commenting on the amount generated, the customs boss sad that the increase in the June figure compared to the last two months indicate a gradual increase in the economic activities across the land border.
