The Speaker of Cross
River House of Assembly, Mr John Gaul-Lebo, says the state government, has concluded plans to establish a micro-finance bank and an Enterprise Academy.
Gaul-Lebo made this known when a delegation of the Central Bank’s Entrepreneurial Development Centre (EDC) in Calabar paid him a visit.
He said that the assembly was willing to partner with the EDC in the area of capacity building.
Gaul-Lebo said a legal framework would be put in place for the establishment of the micro-finance bank, adding that this would enable the state access funds for enterprise development.
The speaker, who noted that there was a gradual movement toward a knowledge economy, stressed the need to establish the bank and academy in order to promote economic activities in the state.
Gaul-Lebo lauded the EDC for imparting entrepreneurial skills in Cross River youths as well as creating an enabling environment for youth employment.
Earlier, the head of the EDC delegation, Mr Emeka Nnamani, said the visit was to intimate the speaker about the centre’s activities and numerous employment opportunities offered to youths.
Nnamani added that the centre was complementing the state government by helping to reduce unemployment and poverty in Cross River.
