Tourism, Mainstay Of Future Economy – Wike
The Rivers State Governor,
Chief Nyesom Wike, has said that the government is not oblivious of the substantial contribution of the culture and tourism sector as it is the mainstay of many economies in the world.
The State Chief Executive made this declaration during the first strategy meeting on entertainment at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, recently.
The governor said that the Federal Government has identified tourism as an important sector for the growth of the economy in Nigeria.
Wike, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Kenneth Kobani, noted that the state will continue to promote, present and preserve some of those aspects that portray the state’s cultural values and identity.
He assured that the state government will support and encourage the development of the entertainment industry, saying we shall be magnanimous in supporting our Nollywood, and indeed, all stakeholders and encourage growth in the sector, especially when such growth creates a positive impact on our society’’.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Atosemi Eson Teetito, expressed speak with one voice in addressing matters affecting the industry.
The entertainment practitioner urged the various unions in the entertainment industry like Actor’s Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) to be more creative with new ideas and innovations, adding that they serve as a platform to motivate, cultivate and promote the industry.
He further explained that proper management of the industry in the state will create employment, attract investors and clear the street of destitute. The first strategy meeting was attended by Mr. Kalejaiye Femi and the Audio Engineer/Chief Executive Officer of Young Wealth, Mr. Duncan Mighty.
