Gunmen Attack Oron Customs Base, Kill One
At least, one officer of the
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) was shot dead and another injured when gunmen suspected to be militants attacked their base in Oron, Akwa-Ibom State, recently.
Accordingly to sources, the officer the died during a gun battle with the militants, numbering about eight stormed the base in a speed boat.
It was gathered that the militants carried out their onslaught at about 9 pm and also carted away all the arms and ammunition at the base.
Although, the name of the deceased officer could not be ascertained, but the source further said the area had been under constant attacks by hoodlums from Oron water way to Ita Awak in Ikot Abasi, Akwa-Ibom State.
Our source hinted that following the attack, security has been beefed-up inorder to avert further attack.
However, the controller of the Nigeria Customs Service incharge of the area could not be reached for his comments, but the Commissioner of Police in Akwa-Ibom State, Gabriel Achong confirmed the incident when contacted and said that investigation is ongoing to arrest and bring the culprits to book.
