Group Wants Buhari To Consolidate On MDGs Projects
A group, Africa Youth Patriotic and Development Mission (AYPDM), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consolidate on the various community projects under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) across the country.
The Executive Director, AYPDM,Mr. Adefila Kamal made the call at a news conference in Abuja on Sunday to draw support for the achievements of the MDGs with the help of development partners.
He said the government of President Buhari should safeguard the achievements of the MDGs by offering adequate protection to projects executed under the programme in different localities across the country.
Kamal said the Federal Government should provide fund for conditional grants for the realisation of the MDGS in order to facilitate its mandate.
The director commended the efforts of Mrs Precious Gbeneol, the immediate past Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs, and development partners such as USAID, DFID, UNDP and UKAID, among others, who contributed to the achievement of MDGs in the country.
He urged development partners to continue to support the MDGs, adding that this would help to fast track the overall achievement of the goals.
According to him, the MDGs are common factors that bear a broad spectrum of impact on the masses and the government should do all within its power to support it.
He said “efforts have been made by the immediate past head of the grants scheme through innovative projects and programmes which include the village health workers scheme, rural women empowerment.
“Others include access to safe drinking water and ensuring access to quality education is eased for the common man.”
Kamal urged the incumbent head of the Conditional Grants Scheme (CGS) to consolidate on the sterling records attained by his predecessor.
He advised heads of communities where the projects were located to ensure the security of the facilities for which government and international partners had spent large amount of resources in funding.

Blue Economy: Minister Seeks Lifeline In Blue Bond Amid Budget Squeeze

Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is seeking new funding to implement its ambitious 10-year policy, with officials acknowledging that public funding is insufficient for the scale of transformation envisioned.
Adegboyega Oyetola, said finance is the “lever that will attract long-term and progressive capital critical” and determine whether the ministry’s goals take off.
“Resources we currently receive from the national budget are grossly inadequate compared to the enormous responsibility before the ministry and sector,” he warned.
He described public funding not as charity but as “seed capital” that would unlock private investment adding that without it, Nigeria risks falling behind its neighbours while billions of naira continue to leak abroad through freight payments on foreign vessels.
He said “We have N24.6 trillion in pension assets, with 5 percent set aside for sustainability, including blue and green bonds,” he told stakeholders. “Each time green bonds have been issued, they have been oversubscribed. The money is there. The question is, how do you then get this money?”
The NGX reckons that once incorporated into the national budget, the Debt Management Office could issue the bonds, attracting both domestic pension funds and international investors.
Yet even as officials push for creative financing, Oloruntola stressed that the first step remains legislative.
“Even the most innovative financial tools and private investments require a solid public funding base to thrive.
It would be noted that with government funding inadequate, the ministry and capital market operators see bonds as alternative financing.
