Residents Decry Deplorable Roads In Delta
Residents of Asaba in
Delta State have decried poor state of road networks in the state and called on the incoming administration in the state to provide good road network in order to boost the economy of the state.
The residents made the call in an interview with the newsmen in Asaba recently.
They said that lack of good roads was a major challenge facing the people of the state, especially those living in Asaba, the state capital.
They noted that business activities in the state capital usually went down during the rainy season, due to the deplorable condition of the roads.
Mr Uche Obi, who owns a supermarket the on the Direct Labour Road, said: “the poor state of our roads is having a toll on our businesses,” and appealed to the incoming government to try as much as possible to fix the link roads so that businesses can survive.
Mrs Grace Kalu, who owns a restaurant in Umuagu Quarters, said: “our major challenge in doing business, apart from the poor electricity supply, is the poor state of roads.
A tricycle operator, Mr Cyril Mordi, said that the deplorable condition of roads in Asaba had a devastating effect on his transport business.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Delta chapter, has suspended its strike for one week to enable it hold dialogue with the relevant authority.
The Chairman of PASAN, Mr McCarthy Obrotu, told newsmen in Asaba that the union suspended the strike to hold dialogue with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and other officials.
Obrotu said apart from the appeal from Uduaghan, the management of the state House of Assembly Commission had signed an undertaken to implement the demands that had nothing to do with finance.
The union had on May 6 embarked on indefinite strike over non-implementation of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the union and the management of the House of Assembly.
