Institute Seeks Government Support For Private Maritime Schools
A privately-owned
maritime institution, Emdee Shipping and Maritime College, has advocated for government support in the area of funding, saying that finance remains a major problem to private academies in the industry.
The Rector of the school, Ogbuefi Anaele, made the plea at the school’s matriculation ceremony which took place in Lagos recently.
Anaele appealed with the government to provide subventions, loans and grants to empower privately owned institutions in order to reduce the burden of fees payable by parents and guardians of the students, stressing that such support would bring down the school fees.
“I wish that education were free at all levels so that even those battling with financial limitations can have good education especially of the kind you are opportune to received”, he said.
“I have a dream that one day, God will answer our prayers in this regard but until then, we must continue to manage our meagre resources while providing quality training for our youths and for the entire maritime workforce.” Anaele said.
The rector urged parents to support the school in the upbringing of the students, adding that when a child derails due to negative influence, it may also lead him/her to derail in their academic pursuit.
He said that as a private maritime institution, there are some core values that it cherishes, adding that those attributes are meant to achieve the school’s vision and mission for it to become a force to reckon with.
The rector listed amongst the core values, honesty, integrity, truthfulness, discipline and a high level of morality.
He noted that Emdee Shipping and Maritime College is a school with a difference. It is an institution for the formation of aspersing maritime transport professionals fired with zeal to make a visible difference in the entire spectrum of the business in shipping.
Anaele reiterated the institution’s determination to provide national and international focus and forum for networking on critical issues based on maritime transport development worldwide.
