NDDC Donates Drugs To Bayelsa Govt
The Niger Delta
Development Commission (NDDC) has donated drugs to the Bayelsa State government as part of its efforts to support the fight against cholera outbreak in the state.
Our correspondent reports that cholera outbreak is reported in some communities in Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Ogbia local government areas of the state.
The Managing Director, NDDC, Mr Bassey Dan-Abia, represented by Director of Education, Health and Social ServicesDr Solomon Ita, of the commission, handed over the items to the state government.
The items include antibiotic drugs, sanitisers and other cholera related drugs.
He reiterated the Commission’s readiness to support states in the Niger-Delta in all areas of development.
“On the cost of these medical items, I do not have the actual cost but there are more than 150 cartons of different drugs.
“This is to demonstrate our own part of support in the fight against cholera outbreak in Bayelsa,’’ he said.
He also said that the Commission would partner the state government to sensitise the people to the importance of fight against cholera.
The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Ayibatonye Owei, called on other corporate organisations and individuals to support the state government in the fight against the disease.
He commended the NDDC activities in the Niger-Delta, especially in Bayelsa State, describing its interventions as worthwhile.
He, nonetheless, observed that no life was lost during the recent outbreak in Ologi community and Ogbia local government areas.
“We have also taken some measures; our medical team have been sent to Ologi community and we found that no person has died of the disease,’’ he said.
Owei said that the state government had sent some drugs and other relief materials to the affected people in the community.
