Muslim Student’s President Condemns Boko Haram
President of the Muslim
Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), University of Port Harcourt branch, Jamiu Jabaru has condemned the activities of the inglorious Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Jabaru, who made the condermnation in an exclusive interview with The Tide, midweek, in UNIPORT, shortly after the “Jihad week” of the MSSN, noted that Boko Haram has no place in Islam.
He explained that Boko Haram constitutes the category of Islamists who have misconstrued the word “Jihad”, saying that their actions are not in accordance with the Koran.
“Jihad, he said, “Is also an act that one has to do to make things right in the society”, but that such acts must be in consonance with the dictates of the Koran which insist on peaceful resolution of perceived problems.
If you noticed that something is not right somewhere, saying some persons are corrupt among your family or in the society, the act of you trying to see how to make things right, by using your hands through speech, or meeting people that could bring about change for people to do what is right is Jihad,” he said.
On whether the actions of Boko Haram does not among to correcting a perceived ill, Jabaru explained that it is not because it is not guided by what he called” the right source”.
“Like I said, Jihad means to correct things. As a muslim were have leaders in our communities. As far as Nigerian is concerned, the Sultan of Sokoto is the muslim leaders.
“For you to say that you want to correct things, you must have your source of evidence infact, so that what ever you do, you can make reference to that source. What Boko Haram is doing has no basis in the Koran.
He buttressed his stance by quoting Koran chapter 5 verse 32, which he said, conderms the killing of innocent souls.
Jabaru, a part three mathematics / statistics student explained that studying the Koran enhances the retentive memory of the muslim and hence the students.
“It helps us (students) a lot when you memorise verses of the Koran, it helps to increase your retentive memory so, whenever you are taught something in class, it is easier to grasp it, and understand it quickly”, he said.
