Edo Offers Jobs To 11 Victims Of NIS Recruitment
The Edo State
Government has offered jobs to 11 of the 20 surviving victims of the 2014 Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment stampede in Benin.
The state governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, announced the offer in Benin when he received the victims, including the widower and children of the late Sandra Amu.
Oshiomhole also gave N2 million to the children of Amu for their upkeep and assured the victims that they were at liberty to leave the employment of the state government whenever they so desired.
He said the state government would consult with lawyers to ascertain if the NIS was liable for the deaths of some the applicants.
Accordingly, the governor said he would invite the authorities of NIS in the state to authenticate the list of the victims.
He said there was a need to explore legal issues and provide legal services for the victims and their families.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the victims, Mr Edmund Osuma, said that 21 persons, including Amu, were affected but that only 11 could be reached for the meeting with the governor.
He said that the 20 victims were the injured applicants who were treated and discharged at various hospitals in the state capital.
