NGO Urges Nigerians To Vote More Women
The International
Centre for Women Empowerment and Child Development (ICWECD), an NGO, has appealed to Nigerians to vote female candidates during the forthcoming general elections for better representation.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Asaba recently.
Anyafulu said that voting more women into public offices would help to increase the number of women in public positions as well as attract more dividends of democracy to the people.
She said that apart from attracting more dividends of democracy to the people, it would also help to reduce corruption in the country.
“Having more women in public positions will go a long way in reducing corruption in our society in the sense that no matter how bad a woman may be, there is always the fear of not squandering public funds.
“Apart from helping to reduce corruption, women are also better, especially when it comes to management.
“And for us to overcome some of the lingering challenges facing the country today, there is the need for us to encourage more women in power.’’
Anyafulu also advised women to encourage their fellow women vying for political offices in order to debunk that view that women were always their own enemies and to promote nation building.
