In line with the biblical in
junction to give thanks to God in all situations, the Rivers State branch of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists last Sunday appreciated God for his goodness.
In a thanksgiving service which held in Gateway Int’l Church, Port Harcourt, the chairman of the association in Rivers State, Mrs. Lilian Okonkwo, said a gratitude to God is imperative given the challenging nature of work the female journalists go through, the protection of their families, and for a successful and peaceful election conducted by the association.
She called for prayers for journalists across the nation as they go about their duties during the forthcoming general election in the country.
Also speaking, the National Vice President of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs. Timi Idoko, advised members of the Association to be committed to the activities of NAWOJ as the only way to express their passion for their profession.
Mrs Idoko, who said in an interview with the press that NAWOJ is partnering with INEC at the National level to ensure that female journalists are being carried along in the election process, hinted that representatives are being sent out from each of the states to INEC with names and numbers, which was based on the workshop attended on the election coverage.
Meanwhile, the General Overseer of Gateway International Church, Pastor George Izunwa, has offered prayer for Nigeria and the leaders. He advised the women journalists to be sincere and unbiased, as well as uphold peace, unity, and integrity of the state and country.
The occasion witnessed the presence of the chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State, Mr. Opaka Dokubo, who joined the women in thanking God for the life and service of the women journalists in the state, Mr. Opaka prayed that this year’s election favours the women in the state as he looks forward to a journalistic job that would favour the women at large.
