Calabar Residents Lament Armed Robbery Incidents
The continuous in
crease of reported cases of armed robbery within the Calabar metropolis and its environs, is sending jitters down the spines of many residents, as they are unable to sleep with their two eyes closed.
As a result, residents of the metropolis have made passionate appeals to all the security agencies under the Joint Task Force in the state, to increase and expand their surveillance in the city in order to checkmate the ugly trend, which they pointed out, is gradually depleting the peaceful status of Cross River State.
According to some of the victims of recent armed robbery incidents, who bared their minds on conditions of anonymity with our correspondent, the men of the underworld are now having a field day as they now operate with ease for hours uninterrupted, carting away valuables of innocent citizens worth millions of Naira.
The concerned citizens pointed out that, armed robbers had deviced several methods such as moving in clusters of different professional artisans such as welders, electricians, bricklayers, who all put their heads together to make their operations easier, adding that they no longer gain entry through the doors but rather through roof tops and perforated walls made possible by the use of strong carbonated chemicals.
Areas worst affected in recent times include; Marian by Ibom Layout, State Housing by Atekong Drive, Federal Housing, Essien Town, Satellite Town, 8-miles, Ikot Ekpo and some parts of Calabar South Local Government Area.
The affected residents, appealed to the State Government to intensify support for the State’s Twenty-four hours blanket security network to enable them checkmate strange elements coming into the State, whom they believed were largely behind the armed robbery and other unwholesome activities in the metropolis.
According to them, experiences from previous incidents around the town indicated that, the perpetrators of these horrible and horrendous acts communicate in languages alien to the state.
