Maritime Workers Boss Tasks Members On Patriotism
The State Chairman of
the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Seamen Branch, Comrade Jonah Jumbo has called on the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee members of the union, Andoni Chapter to be patriotic and solicit for employment opportunities for its members.
Jumbo, who made the call during the inauguration of the chapter in Port Harcourt recently said they should operate within the ambit of the union law and ensure that their target should be to bring local content to Andoni people in the maritime sector.
“You should go and locate all the oil and maritime companies operating in Andoni in line with cabotage and local content law”, he charged, stressing that they should approach the companies in the area in a matured and friendly manner and dialogue for job placement of their members.
The State MWUN boss also enjoined the new CTC executive not to engage themselves in any form of criminality as the union would frown against such act, and further advised them to be of good behavior within the six months of their tenure.
He appealed to the oil and maritime related companies operating in the area to also co-operate with the new executive of NWUN and create job opportunities for its members in order to maintain a better business atmosphere and reduce crime and unemployment in the area.
In his response, the new CTC chairman, Comrade John Nteile promised that with the support of all members, they would live up to expectation.
Nteile assured that they would do everything within their power to secure jobs for members during his administration, adding that despite the fact that Andoni is endowed with oil, but unemployment rate is alarming.
He thanked all for the confidence reposed in them and further assured that they would work harmoniously to achieve set objectives.
Other CTC members include Comrades Nicodemus ThankGod, Emmanuel Gogonte, Promise Isaac and Ikwut Benedicta Sunday.
