Group Calls For Sustained Gas Dev
The President, Nigeria
Liquified Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA), Mr Ayo Adeshina, has called for a sustained gas development project in the country.
To give effect to it, Adeshina said that there should be an enduring legislation on the exploration of gas in the country.
He told newsmen in Abuja that there was need for the nation to recover all available gas in the environment.
According to him, oil companies converted gas in the system to their use in the course of drilling for oil.
“We need to have a robust set of laws that is targeted at the exploration of gas.
“All the gas we have currently is associated gas; they were found accidentally when they were drilling for oil,” he said.
He stressed that with the enormous gas resources in the country, government ought to have concentrated more on gas to resolve the power problem.
Adeshina regretted that most oil companies doing business in the country had concentrated more on the exploration of oil to the detriment of gas.
He maintained that there must be a clear cut agenda for the development of the gas sector to attract foreign and local investments.
He noted that prior to the 2011elections there was so much talk about gas revolution which had not materialised.
“I think we need to do more work than talking about the development of gas master plan which has so many versions,” he said.
He added that the country needed a sustained commitment and genuine gas utilisation project where investors will partner to execute the project.
