To Partner NAHCO On Agro Export
The Minister of Aviation,
Mr Osita Chidoka says the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (Nahco) would collaborate with the federal government on its agro-based export programme.
The minister said this when the board of the company, led by its chairman Mallam Suleiman Yahyah paid him a courtesy call in his office recently .
Mr Chidoka noted that with the capacity and efficiency of the cargo handling company, government could be rest assured that the expected agricultural output would be well taken care of in terms of export capabilities.
He promised to contact his counterpart in the Agricultural and Rural Development Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, to see how the ministry and nahco could work together, pledging to bring the two parties together to facilitate a partnership that would work well for the development of the country’s economy.
Mr Chidoka, said there was much to be done to improve the cargo industry in Nigeria and commend nahco aviance for innovations and efficient delivery of handling services.
The Minister expressed concern that the country does not have an air cargo system that moves perishable cargo from one part of the country to the other same day, when the foodstuffs and fruits and still very fresh, “Why cannot tomatoes be moved by air from Yola to Lagos,” he asked, adding that these are the things the aviance sector should be able to accomplish.
He envisaged a situation where the agro sector would be able to join hands with nahco in maximising the opportunities that exist in the implementation of the company’s Free Trade Zone (FTZ) licence.
The way it is being implemented, the NAHCO’s Free Trade Zone allows for importation and exportation of goods in a kind of borderless environment. The FTZ allows Nigeria’s agro allied products to be exported to Europe and America with Lagos serving as the regional hub in the process.
