Customs Generates N463.7bn In 2014
The Nigerian Customs
Service has generated not less than N463.74 billion from duties and levies within half of this year, January and June 2014.
The customs service in its “Monthly Reveenue Report” released to The Tide by its Area Command Office, Onne ports stated that N197,73 billion was collected in the first quarter, January and March 2014, while N265 billion was collected in thesecond quarter, April and June 2014.
The report revealed that N276.23 billion of the revenue collected was remitted to the Federation Account, while N187.51 billion was transferred to the non-federation account.
The statement further stated that N247.72 billion was collected from import duty, N16.78 billion from excise duty and N93.10 billion from Value Added Tax (VAT).
The report added that N94.40 billion was collected from levies, N11.52 billion from Common External Tariff (CET), Special Levy and N1.21 billion from other fees.
The NCS said the revenue collection during the period showed that N70.58 billion was collected in January, N63.87 billion in Febraury N63.37 billion in March, N87.58 billion in April, N95.04 billion in May and N83.29 billion in June.
The report attributed the success of the service in terms of revenue generation to the taking over of the Nigerian customs service as the sole administrator of Destination Inspection Regime.
The report revealed that Pre-Arrival Assessment Report PAAR has immensely contributed to the stability being enjoyed by the service and various commands of the NCS.
