Bayelsa To Spend N2bn On Projects
Governor Seriake
Dickson of Bayelsa State said last Wednesday in Yenagoa that the government had earmarked two billion naira for the completion of some ongoing projects in the state.
The governor, who disclosed this during his monthly transparency programme on the state’s income and expenditures, said a draft had been issued to Julius Berger Company.
According to the governor, the money is meant to mobilise the company to speed up action on ongoing projects, including dualisation of Isaac Boro expressway, a major road in the state capital.
Dickson said the company had concluded plans to invest in the building of high-rise residential apartments to ease the accommodation challenges in the state capital.
He said it was not true that Julius Berger had abandoned its work in the state due to lack of funds.
“Our business as a government is to work for the betterment of our state, while our detractors are busy spreading rumours,” Dickson said.
In a related development, Dickson said he had given a cheque for N20 million in loan to Ogbua Women group in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
According to him, the interest-free loan will be handled by a micro-finance agency to ensure transparency.
Dickson explained that the loan is part of his administration’s effort to empower women in the state.
He urged the group to invest the money in meaningful ventures.
