NIMC Acquires Software To Enroll Physically-Challenged
The National Identity
Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja has said it has acquired a software to enroll physically-challenged Nigerians into the national identity management project.
NIMC’s Deputy Director of Corporate Communications, Mr Umar Abdulhamid, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, recently..
He said the affected Nigerians would be enrolled as soon as the software was installed into the NIMC system.
“The software has features which can accommodate all forms of disability, without compromising the authenticity of the biometrics of the enrollee,’’ Abdulhamid said.
He said the current software being operated required the collection all of the individual’s fingerprints as well as the colour of the iris of the enrollee.
The NIMC official said the new software had been created to meet the needs of people with all forms of physical challenge.
Abdulhamid said the delay in enrolling the physically-challenged by NIMC was not a deliberate attempt to discriminate against them, but to develop an authentic means of enrolling them.
“The affected Nigerians will be informed of the date for their enrolment after the system has passed the test run,’’ he said.
The Tide source reports that some physically-challenged Nigerians were turned back from the enrollment centres because of the inability of the system to capture them.
