Dana Air Resumes PH Route Operations
Following the lifting of the
suspension placed on Dana Air by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for a technical audit, the airline has resumed full flight operations at the Port Harcourt airport.
On resumption after the suspension that kept the airline away from the air for months, Dana Air began flight operations from Lagos to Abuja January but postponed Port Harcourt route till Tuesday when the first flight touched ground at 8.00am.
On board the new Boeing 737-500 series aircraft acquired by the airline to boost its fleet was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dana Air Mr Yuan Drewinsky and other management staff of the airline with other commercial passengers.
Mr Drewinsky told aviation correspondents at the Port Harcourt International Airport, that the airline had resumed operations after the suspension issue that slowed down their activities, noting that a lot of efforts had been put in place to ensure that their customers get the best of services.
According to him, “we have put the incident of the suspension behind us, we are back the way we use to be, all time service performance, proactive as we listen to what the customers want and we have acquired new aircraft to improve our service delivery”.
He explained that the Port Harcourt flight operation was earlier scheduled to commence in the month but was postponed, stressing that the resumption was long over due but thanked God that the business took off.
The Chief Executive office of Dana Air lauded customers of the airline for their patience, encouragement and support during the trying moments of the suspension and assured them of great improvement in the airline’s services including booking online.
Some of the passengers who spoke to The Tide correspondent, expressed happiness that the airline is back to business to render services to the teeming customers of air travellers.
Mr. Zak Timon, Sampson Lawal and Mr Itodo, said the introduction of a new aircraft to their fleet would help to check the high fares charged by Arik Air and Aero Contractor and commended the services.
They however, prayed that the incident which resulted in the suspension would never occur again, adding that enough lessons have been learnt by the measures and warned other airlines to take corrective steps to avert the ugly incidents of the past.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
