Fadama III: 21,432 Farmers Benefit In Delta
The Delta State Coordi
nator of FADAMA III Project, Mr Anthony Abanum, on Thursday said 21,432 people benefited directly from the project in the last five years.
Abanum said this at the inauguration of the N9.8 million equipment for community facilitators at the FADAMA III office in Asaba.
The equipment was provided by the State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR) project.
He said that before the SEEFOR project intervention in five selected local government areas, FADAMA III was being implemented in 20 selected local governments in the state.
He said the FADAMA III project in the state had not fully wound down for technical reasons until March 2014.
Abanum said this was because it had only drawn down about 98 per cent of its fund from the World Bank.
According to him, FADAMA III is at its terminal stage having completed its five year duration, although being technically extended to make it draw down its fund in full.
“The project in its five year of operation recorded the disbursement of grant resources to 1,746 FADAMA Users Groups across 147 FADAMA Community Associations reaching a total of 21,432 direct beneficiaries,” he said.
The coordinator said the benefits were achieved through the financing of income generating activities and provision of small scale community-owned rural infrastructure.
The Tide recalls that FADAMA III was first inaugurated in the state in 2009 to run a full circle of five years, and would terminate by Dec. 31, 2013.
