FRSC Rates Delta High On Road Safety
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has rated the Delta State Government as the number one stakeholder in road safety.
The Zonal Commander of the Commission, Mr Charles Akpabio, stated this during the fourth quarter zonal retreat tagged, “Target Assessment Index: Producing Optimum Results in Zone RS5”.
Akpabio said that the Zone RS5 emerged the best zone across the country because of the way Delta had always taken the issues of safety on the roads.
He said that the Delta Commissioner for Transport, Mr Benson Igbakpa, had always shown personal commitment to issue of safety on the roads.
The commander noted that the retreat was as timely and apt because the FRSC was aware that during this period, vehicular movement across the Onitsha Bridge was always very heavy.
Akpabio said that the retreat was organised to brainstorm on how to improve the standards already attained and to reflect on the commission’s operations.
He commended the commissioner for supporting Road Safety, saying that it had emerged the best across the country.
Responding, the Commissioner commended the commission for recognising his effort at ensuring safety on the roads.
He reiterated the Delta Government’s commitment to road safety.
Igbakpa also commended the officials of the FRSC in the state for ensuring discipline and comporting themselves on the highway.
He said that the state government would collaborate with the commission to train staff of the Delta Transport Authority.
Igbakpa, however, urged FRSC officials to collaborate with the state Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and streamline their duties.
The commissioner disagreed that road worthiness certificate was not meant to generate revenue for the government but to ensure safety on the roads.
