Coach Promises 2014 W/Cup Ticket For Falconets
The new Head Coach of
the U-20 Women’s Team, the Falconets,Peter Dedevbo, has promised to take the team to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Dedevbo said in an interview with the newsmen that his goal was to take the Falconets to greater heights to prove his worth to Nigerians.
Dedevbo was named coach of the Falconets by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on October 6.
Before his appointment, the coach was an Assistant Coach of the first-ever U-17 Women’s team, which featured at the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in New Zealand in 2008.
He was later appointed Head Coach of the team, who led the girls to the quarter final in Trinidad and Tobago in 2010 and Azerbaijan in 2012.
Dedevbo noted that the U-20 team was still developing and said that it would need time to grow into a strong and formidable team.
“Most of these girls were recruited from the U-17 team and I really do not have enough time to fully prepare them as I would have loved to, for the qualifier against the Burkinabes.
“However, let’s see what will happen within the short time at our disposal; after the qualifiers, we will then go into serious business.’’
He told newsmen that all the invited players had reported to the camp and were in high spirit.
“We opened camp on October 7 and invited 30 players. I am happy to say that all the girls have arrived safely.
“We are now in the process of screening them as the race for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Canada in August 2014, gets underway this month,’’ he said.
The Falconets, runners-up at the World Cup in Germany 2010 and semi finalists in Japan in 2012, are up against Burkina Faso in the African first round fixtures.
The first leg match will hold in Nigeria in the last weekend of October, while the second leg is scheduled for November in Burkina Faso.
