Afolabi Emerges Chairman, FIRS Civil Service Union
Members of the Federal
Inland Revenue Service Unit of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) in Abuja have elected new officials to run the affairs of the union.
The union elected Mr Gabriel Afolabi to be the new chairman of the union for a four-year tenure after being elected unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Afolabi said the union would work to improve the welfare of its workers.
He said that the election was a renewal of hope which would be remembered as that which reaffirmed the faith and strengthened the bond of the union.
He gave members of the union assurances that his executive would run a union that would be committed to fairness, equity and justice for all.
“The progress we seek for our organisation is in our collective hands.
“I am confident that with this new spirit of national reawakening and our sense of collective ownership of the tax administration project vis-a-vis staff welfare, a firm foundation has been laid for participatory governance and process,’’ Afolabi said.
He called on members of the union to join hands with him to promote patriotic work ethics in FIRS and to build a strong and dynamic organisation.
The new union chief thanked the executive of the national body, noting that they all made huge sacrifices towards the success of the election.
Reports that the election was the peak of the fourth quadrennial meeting of the union for the year.
The meeting was attended by over 50 members of the organisation from across the country.
