UTME Result: Hackers Invade Internet
Hackers have flooded the internet centres luring students that sat for the recent unified tertiary matriculations examination (UTME) into upgrading of result scores and change of course.
A student, Chimela Igwe who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Tuesday said he met the hackers on google when he wanted to browse his result.
Igwe noted that the hacker whose name is Mike also had a cell phone contact, posing as a JAMB staff.
According to him, the fraudster demanded N3,000.00 only from him as to help and upgrade his score but he suspected foul play when the suspect sent him a score even after given him a wrong JAMB registration number.
He said the hacker later told him that he had upgraded his scores to 215 and that he originally had a poor result.
The student revealed that his suspicion rose when the cyber theif refused to tell him his original score. He, however, noted his surprise to see a higher score rather than what the suspect had earlier announced.
It would be recalled that JAMB had earlier warned students to resist any one who promised to upgrade their results as it was a mission impossible.
Others also told The Tide that they declined the attempt to upgrade their scores by those they met in the internet centres due to the high rate of cyber crime.
They blamed part of the poor performance of this year’s JAMB on the introduction of the Computer Based Test (CBT), saying that Nigerian education system has not adjusted enough as to carry the computer education.
According to them, several students ran into trouble on the examination day, as even some of the examiners were unable to verify some of the problem.
It would be recalled that JAMB has reported that it will henceforth conduct its examination via computer after next year’s examination.
