Minister Lauds Quality Projects In Akwa Ibom
The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, has lauded the quality of projects spread across Akwa Ibom, describing them as true dividends of democracy.
Maku stated this during the Citizen’s Forum/Town Hall Meeting to mark the end of the good governance tour in the state.
According to him, the good governance tour is impressed with the level of projects spread across the state.
He said that Akwa Ibom had massively transformed from what it used to be in the 1980s to becoming a major commercial centre in the Gulf of Guinea.
“Democracy is working perfectly in Akwa Ibom. We have seen the state that is working, a government that is working and a happy people.’’
Maku said that the Federal Government was building 10 new power plants which would be inaugurated by the end of 2013 to boost power supply in the country.
He appealed to the contractor working on the East West road to speed up the pace of work to ensure prompt completion, adding that Federal Government was committed to completing the job.
“The East West road is a strategic road, there are some sections of the road that work is slow, so I urged the contractor to speed up work in the side.’’
Maku also said the Federal Government was committed to returning to the railway transportation to reduce the heavy traffic on the road and also extend the life span of the highways.
In his remark, Mr Oluwale Okunniyi, a member of the Pro- National Conference Organisation, representing the Civil Society Organisation (CSO), advised government to reduce the cost of governance across the country.
He said that people at the grassroots should be empowered to reduce poverty in the country.
Okunniyi called for devolution of powers among the federating units to guarantee good governance.
Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom had earlier said that 4,000 jobs had been executed since the inception of his administration and that over 1,000 km of roads had been constructed across the state.
He assured that more projects would be executed before the end of his tenure.
