FG Assures On Stable Power supply
Information Minister, Labaran Maku, has said that the Federal Government will “never spare anything” in its efforts to ensure stable power supply.
Maku spoke in Jos yesterday, after visiting the Makera PHCN sub-station, on the second day of the national good governance tour to Plateau State.
“We are building this type of power station in other parts of the country.
“What we are doing is to change the entire power transmission infrastructure in the effort to make power available to all Nigerians,” he said.
Maku attributed most of the improvement in power supply to the restoration of facilities that had been completely crippled over the years.
“Mr President sees power as the key component of economic recovery and indeed, the basic comfort of all Nigerians and shall leave no stone unturned in the effort to ensure it is available for use.”
“The President’s resolve is that from this year onward, power supply will never decrease. From our findings and investments in the 36 states, power supply will rather increase.
“I am happy to say that from the reports across the states, power has become increasingly stable. In most of the states, power has improved tremendously,” the minister said.
He said that government was only waiting for gas to meet the needs of the gas power plants, and that power would be more stable once there was stable gas supply.
“So, we are working at all levels – generation, transmission and distribution, so as to meet the nation’s power demands,’’ he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Idi Waziri, had said that the state government paid N45 million as compensation to acquire the land for the substation.
He expressed happiness that the project had been completed, and urged the Federal Government to strive to intensify the transformation agenda so as to transform the lives of Nigerians.
In his remarks, the Principal Manager of the power station, Mr Thomas Duniya, said the station was transmitting 15 megawatts of electricity and was servicing Jos South alone.
