Uduaghan Advises Youths On Social Media
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has advised Nigerian youths to use the social media for societal development rather than criminal purposes.
Uduaghan gave the advice in Boji-Boji Owa in Ika South Local Government Area of the state when he visited the family of Maj-Gen. Frank Osokogu (rtd), to condole them over the death of their daughter, Cynthia.
Late Cynthia, a graduate of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and holder of a post-graduate degree in Public Administration was murdered in Lagos by some friends she was communicating with on Facebook.
According to the governor, the social media has been used to promote growth and development in the developed societies, lamenting that some Nigerians are exploiting it negatively.
“The social network should be used for the development of society like in the developed societies and not for criminal purposes. Anyone could have fallen victim to the criminals,’’ he said.
The governor described the circumstances behind her death as a betrayal of trust, adding: “This will teach us to be cautious of the type of friends we accept on face book.”
The governor commiserated with the family and urged them to rely on God for strength, and expressed the hope that those arrested with regard to Cynthia’s death would be punished when found guilty.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Roli, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa representing Delta North Senatorial District, and the Obi of Owa, Efezomor II.
Cynthia was buried in her family compound in Owa last weekend.
