Adviser Harps On Subsidy Report Implementation
The Political Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Chief Fred Majemite, advised the Federal Government not to abandon the probe report on the petroleum subsidy.
Majemite told our correspondent in Asaba that the recommendations of the report of the House Committee on Subsidy should be implemented in order to reduce corrupt practices in the country.
He said that Nigerians were waiting for the implementation of the recommendation of the report, adding that “we must all begin to look at the problem of corruption with a view to exposing it”.
The political adviser described corruption as a cankerworm that had eaten deep into the fabric of every sector of the economy and called for a united fight to eradicate it.
Majemite said that corruption was not peculiar to Nigeria, but that measures must be put in place to expose it and all hands must be on deck to achieve this.
He advised the new Committee of the House of Representatives to expedite action in making available the final report on the recommendations, rather than allowing themselves to be distracted.
The political adviser said that the implementation of the committee’s recommendations would be a litmus test on the fight against corruption in the country and warned that anything short of the implementation of the recommendations would further erode the confidence of Nigerians on the sincerity of the probe committee.
Majemite also stressed the need for good relationship between the executive and the legislative arm of government in the country.
He said, “Though the line between the executive and the legislative arm of government is very thin, there must be independence of the various arms of government.”
