A’Ibom Passes HIV/AIDS Agency Bill
The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, has passed into law the bill setting up the Akwa Ibom State HIV/AIDS Control Agency.
The Speaker, Mr Samuel Ikon, who made this known on Wednesday, said that the agency would increase the awareness of the people on the disease.
Ikon added that the bill would encourage behavioural change on the part of high risk segment of the people.
Akwa Ibom HIV/AIDS Agency would also ensure the removal of human, resources, financial, and information barriers to HIV/AIDS.
The bill when signed by the Governor would further ensure that communities were empowered to initiate community action aimed at the control and prevention of HIV/AIDS in the state.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Mr Friday Iwok and member representing Abak State Constituency had earlier presented the report of the committee to the house for consideration.
The speaker directed the Clerk, Mrs Mandu Umoren, to send the clean copy of the bill to the governor for his assent.
