Group Urges Nigerians To Celebrate Nation
The Society for Life Support and Advancement (SOLSA), a
Calabar-based NGO, has called for better
understanding of Nigeria’s challenges as a nation in spite of its current
security challenges.
Some members of the Society made the call at its pre-10th
anniversary stakeholder’s forum in Calabar, recently.
According to the group, there is a compelling need now for
Nigerians to identify positive aspects of the country and celebrate them
because “Nigeria is blessed with human and material resources”.
A Coordinator of SOLSA, Mrs Stella Ogar, said she had divine
vision “to go out and celebrate Nigeria”.
“My vision is to celebrate Nigeria before its routine yearly
birthday anniversary on October 1, and this is the mission and mandate of my
NGO. We have been doing this since 2003.
“We need to rise and celebrate this nation, we should
celebrate the market woman who through her trade keeps the economy going and
provide wares and food to Nigeria’s teeming population.
“We have to celebrate the school teachers who have
contributed their quota to the development of our youths and those who build
homes, the health workers, those in the hospitals, we need to be compassionate
to others.
“Nigeria is a big, populous, caring, hospitable nation. We
should thank God for giving us a geographical entity called Nigeria. “In
Calabar alone we have touched more than 30,000 people with this message”, she
said.
