Christ Consciousness Contemporary Practice
Has the sublime height of Christ’s pure
consciousness fallen short of the standard? The degree and number have fallen.
People could attain the height when the consciousness spurred them to urgency:
the atmosphere was serene for meditation, men de-emphasised materialism for the
pursuit for spirituality and they practiced all the doctrines with great
expectations for their urgent realisation on earth.
At that stage of history there were few
cars, plants, aeroplanes, boats, trucks and other instruments of noise. There
were few professions with fewer men on earth. They were sincere and meant
whatever they said. Although witchcraft was very potent, witches and wizards
detested going to church; when they were angry, they cast spells on practitioners,
made rituals and sacrifices against them. They hated them with the highest
degree of hatred but never attended their meetings. Yet they could withstand
the odds against them with the assistance of God and His abiding presence.
So many things compete for the attention of
a Christian in the contemporary age. The consciousness is receding from some
who either compromise or have brought the world into the church. They are
materially conscious and seek to acquire so much possession on earth. They find
it difficult to pray for one hour a day and read the Bible. Witches and wizards
have come into the church; they officiate and determine the fate of the church
to some extent. They weaken the church and serious members.
The
total victory over the church will never happen. The irony of fate has made it
possible that new denominations spring up with new zeal, strength and love for
Christ. They worship God until they become old like a man and develop wrinkles.
Then the problems mentioned set in.
There are some Christian workers and
pastors in various denominations that constitute the universal church that is
in the spirit. No single denomination has this privilege to produce the number;
no denomination has the monopoly to produce the spiritual empire. It is an entity
that is in the spirit, a no place where the data of pure Christians may be
collected. Yet, it is indisputable that they exist.
Ironically, the number of denominations on
earth has increased tremendously in consonance with the prophecy of infinite
spread of Christianity to all nations of the world. The consciousness of
Christianity has spread to most nations of the world. It must be remarked that
the awareness of the existence of the Christian denominations is not the same
with the true experience. The latter is personal; it comes with the
experiential practice of Christian principles. For instance, when the Bible
says “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” it implies that one who
repents receives a measure of His consciousness. When the Bible says, “ask and
you shall receive,” the gate-way to His presence is prayer, meditation brings
one into His presence and offers one his expectations.
Meditations may be Korah’s type or that of
Christ. Quantity is different from quality. The last type evokes Christ’s pure
consciousness that will never be experienced by all Christians. The type in
question transports the individual into His presence and transforms him.
In conclusion, although the number of
denominations is increasing with peripheral consciousness of Christ, pure
consciousness trails behind waiting for the application of the principles by
many in the contemporary age; an insignificant few rise to pure conscious
state. Love is the most outstanding quality of Christian. Its practice and its
depth are incomparable to other religions in the world; it does crave for
recognition, payment, nor correspondent response from the recipient. The latter
is possible but not compulsory. Christ’s death for everyone is an example. Yet
the belief in the judgement is preached because of future visit of the Lord.
Does one lose anything in striving to experience Christ’s pure consciousness in
the contemporary age? The obvious answer is no; it makes one meek, gentle,
kind, forgiving, loving and obedient. If the number of those living at the
state of pure consciousness is significantly higher than those who are not
christians; the world will much more orderly. It is necessary to encourage
Christians to strive towards Christ’s consciousness, there are more merits than
demerits in its possession.
