NDDC Moves To Strengthen State Offices
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to decentralise its functions, to give more powers to its state offices for effective service delivery.
Managing Director of NDDC, Dr Christian Oboh, said this last Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers, while exchanging views with the Deputy Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Francis Danre.
Oboh expressed optimism that the move would minimise bureaucracy and unnecessary delays in policy implementation.
He added that the move would enable the state offices to be in a better position to handle critical issues of the commission.
“We have evolved a policy of decentralisation because when you concentrate everything at the head office, there will be bureaucracy and a lot of things will go wrong.’’
The NDDC boss assured that his administration would be “fair, just and equitable in project distribution.’’
“We are not critically following the production quota, because if we do, some states will have marginal impact from the NDDC. We want to make sure that all nine states are carried along,” he said.
He promised that the commission would continue to pursue initiatives and projects that would develop the Niger Delta region and provide employment for the youths.
Earlier, Danre said that Ondo lagged behind in projects in the region and appealed to the commission to complete ongoing projects in the state.
